HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY

Mothers are special. It’s not just about giving birth. It’s way beyond that. Our sheer existence, our nurturing from a juvenile to a mature and for the many years ahead as a guiding force, mother’s role is unending in our lives.

From the scriptures to the documented history, from east to the west, from across the sections of society, from Krishna’s mother Yashoda to Shivaji’s mother Jija Bai, we have seen plenty of examples on the glory of motherhood.

As we grow up and get busy with lives, we end up forgetting very often the reason of our own existence and the role of our mothers in our lives.

On this Mother’s Day, I would like to inform that CFSI will soon be coming out with a new movie (Happy Mother’s Day) based on this life-giving entity, whom we call mother.

Story of CFSI’s new film “Happy Mother’s Day” is based on growing up in a small town away from the corporate metro influences. A place, where the local indigenous flavours of Milk, Sevai, Matthi were giving way to Maggi, Coke, Lays etc.

It’s the colourful attractive trivia traveling to us from far off lands. Not only did it change our acquired tastes but also it changed the societal norms and status consciousness as well. The entire change was intriguing in a strange way.

Our little minds would hardly realize the corporate and global extravaganza that paved way for it, but we did get mesmerized with the display of assortments and the fancy new shop windows and the changing facades. We yearned to procure a present for the mother for the Mother’s Day to demonstrate that we loved her.  And many similar instances where consumerism has to testify the importance and value of emotion.

We fell prey and rediscovered and reoriented ourselves as we grew up. CFSI’s film Happy Mother’s Day is a simplistic endeavour in retracing that journey of growing up. The essence of the story is its simplicity and innocence.

It is also set in a small town. With both these considerations, it is necessary to keep the outdoor and sets basic and uncluttered. Without moralizing, some subtext about the replacement of traditional commodities with modern ones are being introduced.

The two protagonists are children – cinematography should serve to bring forth their simplistic point of view, without seeking to impress. Editing stays with the narrative, and sound design and music lend impetus to fragile and innocent emotions.

Few basic sets, circus setup, outdoor locations in hills, a school, and houses sufficiently to sum up the entire story.

NATIONAL CHILDREN’S FILM FESTIVAL 2014

If you have a clear vision and work towards attaining the set goals, things fall in place automatically.

National Children Film Festival is one such thing, which I strongly hold will bring in change, enthusiasm and educational motivation amongst Kids. National Children’s Film Festival is a festival that strives to bring the best of Children’s cinema to young audiences in India. Outstanding features, shorts, live action and animation films would be screened over 3 days of colorful celebration. Thousands of children get the opportunity to view high quality films that they would never be exposed to otherwise and rub shoulders with other kids and filmmakers.

NCFF will be organized by CFSI in Delhi between 14^th to 16^th November, 2014 on Children’s day. The theme of the festival this year is “Cleanliness”.

This is for the first time that CFSI is looking at organizing a festival like this for Children, where they don’t just view world class cinema but also get a chance to make one of their own films under their scheme of “Little Director” for next year. NCFF will screen films under Non-Competitive Sections; and will have CFSI recent films Pappu ki Pugdundi and Kaphal, Goopi Gawaiiyya Bagha Bajaiyya, along with Films based on Cleanliness and Environment.

"The potential possibilities of any child are the most intriguing and stimulating in all creation." National Children Film Festival is one such platform wherein Children will get a chance to learn from workshops organized on Animation and Film Making. In addition to this they will also be given opportunity to meet the directors of films and have one on one interaction with them; thus helping them to understand Films with better perspective.

As you may already be aware Goopi Gawaiyaa Bagha Bajaiyaa  (The World Of Goopi And Bagha) has done us proud, winning accolades across the world like

1)      Jury Prize for Best Art work @ 18 Golden Elephant, ICFFI

2)      Best Animation Film In the Professional Category @ ASIFA 

3)      Best Animation Feature Film @ FICCI BAF, India

4)      Best Animation Feature Film @ CMS international Children’s Film Festival -2014 , India

Goopi Gawaiyaa Bagha Bajaiyaa , directed by Shilpa Ranade, is an animated movie about two musicians Goopi and Bagha, who are banished from their kingdoms because their music is cacophonic. These banished musicians then play their instruments in the jungle and impress the King of Ghosts who grants them many boons.

Goopi Gawaiyaa Bagha Bajaiyaa  is based on Ray’s classic film from the 60’s Goopi Gayne Bagha Bayne is an enduring film having a timeless charm . The film was based on the original writing by his grandfather Upendra kishore Ray Chowdhury and has seen countless retellings and versions; several of these were brilliantly illustrate bringing the story immediately to life.

Goopi Gawaiyaa Bagha Bajaiyaa  was the Opening Film at 18^thInternational Children’s Film Festival at Hyderabad in November 2013. The response has been overwhelming. Children have loved the film since it is a lot of fun, and adults have found it useful to encourage values that are important for a child’s growth.  

The journey of Goopi Gawaiyaa Bagha Bajaiyaa   and indeed of CFSI has been both challenging and exciting. Goopi Gawaiyaa Bagha Bajaiyaa has travelled all over the world covering countries like USA, U.K, Spain, U.A.E., South Korea, Germany etc.

CFSI’s value based films will indeed prove to be strong guiding force for the Children of India. The activities at CFSI are multiplying and our organization is effectively trying to reach out to the children of the country in various innovative and imaginative ways.

There is much more yet to come from CFSI.

Children’s Film Society, India shines out at the 61^st National Award

Children’s Film Society, India, an autonomous body under the aegis of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, aimed at providing wholesome entertainment to the child audience of India has won the prestigious Swarna Kamal for Best Children’s Film for its film “Kaphal – Wild Berries” in the category of Best Children’s film.

“Kaphal – Wild Berries” directed by Batul Mukhtiar is a heart-warming film. Kaphal, the story of four young kids who break all barriers and superstitions to save the life of an old lady, much to the surprise of their parents is a trek up the hills in Garhwal region in Uttarakhand which throws up plenty of surprises, but nothing is more obvious than innocence of the kids that inhabit the region. Without being overly sentimental or loud, the film draws attention to so many issues which kids deal with.

CFSI is dedicated to furthering ‘A CHILD’S RIGHT TO ENTERTAINMENT’ has taken giant strides in this direction and it gives me immense pleasure to say that it has succeeded to a large extent in translating this motto into reality. The activities at CFSI are multiplying and our organization is effectively trying to reach out to the children of the country in various innovative and imaginative ways.

CFSI’s value based films will indeed prove to be strong guiding force for the Children of India.
